Propose a Session for NeMLA 2011

Session proposals for NeMLA's 2011 convention in New Jersey are due by 22 April 2010.

As the NeMLA Board completes the final details for the 41st Annual Convention, it is time to start thinking about NeMLA's 42nd Annual Convention. Sponsored by Rutgers University, it will be held in New Brunswick, New Jersey on April 7-10, 2011.

One of the things that makes NeMLA unique is that each year all sessions are newly proposed by NeMLA members. With no standing sessions, the NeMLA Convention can reflect the active research, concerns and interests of the language profession. As a 2010 member, you are eligible to propose a panel, seminar, roundtable, or creative session for the 2011 New Brunswick Convention. Proposals are due April 22, 2010; the online form will be available shortly. For examples of past sessions, you might review the Call for Papers for the 2010 convention.

Chairing a session can be a rewarding experience; it is an opportunity to create a specific conversation of interest to you and/or of service to the profession. Though the proposal process has become more competitive in recent years, it remains an open process, welcoming new chairs (see our Chair Guide). Chairs may still present papers, on their own or another session.

Thank you for being a part of the Northeast Modern Language Association's largest convention. I look forward to seeing you in Montreal.

Best regards,

Elizabeth Abele, Ph.D.
Executive Director, NeMLA
SUNY Nassau Community College

P.S. Again, the deadline for session proposals is April 22.
