NeMLA 2012 Cultural Studies and Film Special Events

We are delighted to welcome Mexican filmmaker Josefina Mata Zetina to speak at the 2012 convention in Rochester, NY.

Lejos del mar

Born in 1984, Josefina Mata Zetina is a Mexican filmmaker with studies in Philosophy by the Complutense University of Madrid (Spain). She graduated from the New York Film Academy in 2010.

She has written, produced, directed, photographed and edited several short films. Her filmmaking thesis, Lejos del mar/Far from the Sea, won the Honorable Mention Award at the LA Femme Film Festival 2009 (Los Angeles, USA) and the Bronze Palm Award at the Mexico International Film Festival 2010 (Rosarito, Mexico), and has been selected by festivals in the USA, the UK, Canada, Spain, Mexico and Argentina.

Josefina recently finished an MA in Gender and Media at the University of Sussex (UK) and is the founder and CEO of Irregular Me, a Mexican-German film and video production company. She is currently writing her first feature film.
